Ruggles
Ruggles has attracted media attention as the most famous big wave spot in New England for its ability to handle practically any size swell. Situated directly in front of the famous Newport mansions, the backdrop here is scenic. Atlantic storm swell, mostly from hurricanes, pushes huge rights around a headland into the bay. This is one of the few right coast breaks where a gun is standard equipment. Additionally, there are left and right reef breaks here along with a left point. Ideal conditions are an overhead SE swell with NW winds. Ruggles only cranks on a few days per year, but is rideable at chest high.
