Mashpee MA

Orleans Windmill, Cape Cod, MAMashpee is the one of the fastest growing towns in Massachusetts. Along with the Martha's Vineyard town of Aquinnah, it's a traditional home to the Wampanoag Nation, the Native American tribe that met the Pilgrims in Plymouth. Although now outnumbered by new residents, the Wampanoag continue to contribute to Mashpee's character through their Indian Museum, annual July Powwow, and other Tribal Council acitivities.

Mashpee has over five miles of beaches on Nantucket and Vineyard Sounds, extensive waterfront on Waquoit and Popponesset Bays, championship golf courses (New Seabury and Willowbend) and Mashpee Commons, a deluxe shopping complex on Rte. 151. Mashpee has become a prime resort and retirement community, offering both a relaxed way of life and complete range of services.

In a commitment to preserving an ecological balance, 2200 acres in Mashpee have been proposed for inclusion in a new National Wildlife Refuge. Efforts like this are intended to insure that the town remains true to its Native American heritage, maintains economic vitality, and protects its natural resources with asense of tranquility that gives residents a real sense of community pride and activism.
