“Upper Cape Cod” is the term for the region that starts at the Cape Cod Canal and includes the towns of Sandwich, Bourne, Pocasset, Falmouth, Woods Hole and Mashpee. Picturesque harbors and beaches are found along Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound and strong southwest winds make this area popular with sailors of all kinds. Fishing is great here too, both along the canal and in the waters of Vineyard Sound.
Easy bike trails on both sides of the Canal and the Shining Sea Bike Path from Falmouth to Woods hole are good for family rides with children. There are numerous fresh water ponds and some, such as Mashpee-Wakeby, offer nice sandy beaches. Fine examples of colonial era architecture can be found in the town of Sandwich. Woods Hole is home to the renowned Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. When you’ve had your fill of water activities you can go shopping at the beautiful outdoor mall at Mashpee Commons.
