Martha's Vineyard

Cape Cod Vacation / Martha's Vineyard

The island of Martha's Vineyard welcomes visitors with a smile. Here you will find beautiful beaches, wonderful harbors, great food, fine art galleries, superb fishing, sailing, surfing, biking, golfing and much more. Six towns are located on the island’s 100 square miles, each with its own distinct personality. Most visitors arrive by ferry in Tisbury, also known as Vineyard Haven. Vineyard Haven is home to the world renowned (and dry) Black Dog Tavern. Oak Bluffs, with its fine Victorian architecture, is the center of the island’s nightlife.  Wealthy whaling captains built mansions in Edgartown in the mid 19th century – this is where the island’s finest shops and restaurants are found.  The Vineyard’s proud tradition of farming is centered in West Tisbury. Chilmark claims the classic New England fishing village of Menemsha and Aquinnah offers the spectacular cliffs of Gay Head.

Beaches on Martha’s Vineyard offer a choice of conditions. South facing Atlantic Ocean beaches have waves and are popular with surfers. Northern side beaches, facing Vineyard Sound and Nantucket Sound, have warmer water without waves. The island features many protected ponds large and small.
