  • Cape Cod National Seashore Announces a Public Information Meeting on New Shorebird Management Pilot Programs - Revised Date
    Superintendent George E. Price, Jr., has announced that he and his Natural Resources Management staff will hold two public information programs on February 25, 2010 (rescheduled from February 10) at Salt Pond Visitor Center at 5:30 PM, and on March 3, 2010 at Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies at 5:30 PM.
  • Cape Cod National Seashore Public Information Meeting Postponed
    The first of two public information meetings on Cape Cod National Seashore’s new shorebird management pilot programs has been rescheduled to Thursday, February 25, at 5:30 PM, at Salt Pond Visitor Center, at Route 6 and Nauset Road, Eastham. The originally-scheduled meeting set for Wednesday, February 10 has been cancelled due to potential weather conditions.
  • Cape Cod National Seashore Announces a Public Information Meeting on New Shorebird Management Pilot Programs
    Superintendent George E. Price, Jr. has announced that he and his Natural Resources Management staff will hold two public information programs on February 10, 2010 at Salt Pond Visitor Center at 5:30 PM, and on March 3, 2010 at Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies at 5:30 PM. The purpose of the programs is to share information on two new approaches for shorebird management that Cape Cod National Seashore is planning to implement on a pilot basis this coming spring and summer. These include flexible management of piping plovers and shorebirds on high visitation beaches, and selective removal of crows.

Come to the Salt Pond Visitor Center this winter and spring to view works of several artists who have been so inspired and have captured the source of this inspiration with their art. From January 31 – February 28, 2010, journey into the landscape of the national seashore through the eyes of Cathy Skowron.
  • Response to Judgment from Blasch Case
    Superintendent George Price stated today, “I am deeply disappointed that Cape Cod National Seashore received notice that the Massachusetts Land Court justice dismissed the Complaint of the USA v. Wellfleet Zoning Board of Appeals and Blasch Del Mar, LLC on December 28, 2009.” 
  • Province Lands Bike Trail Rehabilitation Continues this Month
    Cape Cod National Seashore Superintendent George E. Price, Jr. has announced that the second and final phase of the Province Lands Bike Trail rehabilitation project will soon be underway.  Price said, “Construction will commence on September 8, 2009 and is expected to continue until March 6, 2010.  This phase is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and will complete the rehabilitation of 4.1 miles of the 7.3 mile bike trail.”

Now, after another pounding by high seas and high tide the stairs at Marconi and Nauset Light are missing entirely. Repairs are anticipated to take 2.5 months at a cost of 0,000 to 0,000.   • Crow Poisoning Discussed
    Last Thursday the National Seashore held a discussion of its plan to poison approximately 12 crows to protect piping plover eggs in Wellfleet. The meeting was attended by 175 people. Next week  on Wednesday, March 3  at 5:30 p.m., there will be another discussion on this topic at the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies at 5 Holway Ave.175 people concerned about the fate of a dozen crows? I like crows and sympathize. Still, I find myself asking what a corn farmer in Iowa would think.    ... by mikem

    Yesterday's forecast was for 3X head high waves. The fact that our beaches are too shallow for waves that big is an um "detail" - maybe at high tide there's a spot where someone will see an 18' face. At 6am this morning the Nantucket Buoy is showing 19' at 11 seconds from the southeast.  That's not something we see every day. ... by mikem

  • Poisoning Crows to Protect Plovers
    In an effort tp protect piping plover chicks the National Seashore will be running a pilot program from March to May in which it will kill crows by placing poisoned chicken eggs into fake piping plover nests.
