Scorpion Bay locals take back the peak

So, evidently there’s a new form of revenge for misbehavior in the line-up these days. It’s called “de-finning.” Allegedly CJ Nelson & his posse were reeking havoc @ Scorpion Bay in Mexico recently, & a rogue group of surf patriots known as the Hand of 2nd Point Justice passed karmic judgment on them by stealing the skegs off their longboards. A blog was even created to document said infamy: scorpionbayjustice.blogspot.com

This act of sabotage represented both a statement on the CJ crew’s ultimately poor surfing etiquette & Scorpion Bay locals’ general disdain towards them. Then, turns out the fenced goods were quickly posted on San Francisco craigslist for a measly four dollars a piece: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/for/478810282.html

Thievery is kind of a touchy subject, one I normally wouldn’t address. However, there’s a real element of humor & irony that warrants mention here. The Hand of 2nd Point Justice lifted the fins in hopes of creating some controversy & exposing the CJ crew’s surfing transgressions. What they may not know is that CJ himself actually owns a fin manufacturing company called Captain Fin. Co: www.captainfincompany.com

So, even though the Hand won this battle, they apparently haven’t yet won the war. Stay tuned to see what happens in the next chapter of this struggle for west coast peak consideration...

Santa Windsurfs the Penobscot, Kiteboarders Assualt Maverick's

Santa Windsurfs the Penobscot, Kiteboarders Assualt Maverick's
There's no surf coming for a while. Time to grab the wind. Tomorrow's forecast is a good one for wind boarders. NOAA forecast for Nantucket Sound: WED - SW WINDS 5 TO 10 KT...INCREASING TO 10 TO 15 KT WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 KT IN THE LATE MORNING AND AFTERNOON. SEAS AROUND 2 FT... BUILDING TO 3 TO 4 FT IN THE AFTERNOON. Add to that air temp of 55F and sunshine.

Christmas season starts earlier and earlier these days. Normally we have retailers to blame. But who can complain when Santa himself makes an appearance on a windsurfer. "If I put it off much longer, I’ll be on ice" says Charlie Sargent, the man in the Santa suit. Sargent has been windsurfing the Penobscot River as Santa since 1983.  Meanwhile on the left coast kiteboarders have joined the lineup at Maverick's. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?  I'm not a fan of kiteboards in the lineup. They aren't subject to the rhythm of the incoming swell and mess up the flow and vibe. But if jet skis are already whining around there's not much left to lose.
