Stormy Cape Cod Weekend

Stormy Cape Cod Weekend

March 13, 2010 - A powerful gale with offshore waves exceeding 25' will be hammering Cape Cod this weekend. Sustained easterly winds reaching 35-45 mph will blow from Saturday night through Monday night accompanied by heavy rain. Forecast tides are two feet lower than they were during the Nor'easter two of weeks ago so damage from erosion will be mitigated. The sun is forecast to appear again on Tuesday and continue through next weekend.

Last North Beach Cottage Washed Away

October 21, 2009 - Sunday's Nor'easter washed away the last of the cottages on Chatham's North Beach. The cottage was named "Hammatt's Hangar" after its owner, Bill Hammatt. The cottage was swept from its foundation onto a sandbar beside the channel (the "new" cut) that leads to Pleasant Bay. Hammatt plans to remove it once he receives the necessary permits. Here's the full story from Boston.com.

Victory at Sea

October 16, 2009 - There's a powerful nor'easter today. The waves are big and out of control with chunks of foam blowing off the tops of them. These conditions are what surfers call "Victory at Sea." The expression comes from a NBC TV series that aired in the 1950's about the Navy during WWII. Here's a clip from Episode 1, Part 1. WARNING: If you are prone to seasickness you may get queasy watching parts of this (around the 5 minute mark):
