Gigantic jellyfish blob kills 100,000 salmon |
 The "Mauve Stinger" A gigantic blob of
jellyfish wiped out a salmon farm in Ireland this
week. Billions of jellyfish of the species
Pelagia
nocticula
(aka the "mauve stinger") congregated in a 10 square mile by 35 foot
deep blanket and floated over two net pens off the coast of the
Glens of Antrim, north of Belfast. Over 100,000 salmon were
killed. These jellyfish normally keep to the Mediterranean.
Warming ocean temperature is considered a likely cause.
