Last week Jenna Hewitt and two friends were looking for a place to sit on the beach in front of the Surfside Inn at Montauk, Long Island. They saw a group of people looking at something that washed up on shore. Upon investigation Jenna and her friends saw a dead creature that looked like something from a science experiment gone awry. Jenna took some digital photos and the blogosphere went wild with speculation.  Brandon Keim in Wired believes he has solved the mystery: "The Montauk Monster is a pit bull, a dog fighting washout..."  more

But the answer will never be known for sure. The remains of the rotting creature were stolen.
