Coast Guard Cam Due for Cleaning

November 16, 2010 - The web cam at Coast Guard beach on the National Seashore has been showing fuzzy images for the past week because of spray driven by day after day of strong NE winds. The camera is behind a window in the bath house overlooking the path to the beach. There's no good way to clean the window manually. In anticipation of winter cold the National Park Service shuts off water service and access to the bath house itself is impeded by a locked door covered by a screwed down sheet of plywood. Mother Nature is the window washer and rain driven by an easterly wind is her tool. Tonight she is forecast to get to work with a 90% chance of rain and wind from ESE at 20+ mph. Clear images are expected to return by Wednesday morning.

Eastham Set To Claim Portion of Nauset Beach

October 22, 2010 - Over the past 30 years, sand has been accumulating on the northern end of Nauset Beach, pushing a mile past the Orleans/Eastham border. This week, Eastham selectmen questioned whether they owned that beach and what should be done with the area. At issue is whether the Town of Eastham should share in revenue collected by the Town of Orleans for beach access and whether and how access should be made available to Eastham residents. Eastham sees the issue as a clearly drawn line in the sand. Orleans sees things differently. More from Doug Fraser CCTimes.

Abby Peterson, Photographer

Abby Peterson, Photographer

September 27, 2010 - This past summer we were lucky to have Abby Peterson provide us with photos of Cape Cod beach activities. Her photos were joyful, fresh and fun. She's now back at Boston College in her senior year majoring in Visual Communications and Photography and just signed on as a freelance photographer/intern with the Boston Herald.  We wish Abby great luck and look forward to seeing more of her pictures.
