Drakes Island Beach runs northeast from the stone jetty entrance to Wells harbor to join with Laudholm Farm Beach and Webhannet Marsh. Together the two beaches span 940 yards with fine white sand, dunes and grass. The combined length of Drake's Island Beach and Laudholm Beach is 940 yards. These beaches are exposed to Atlantic swell coming in from the southeast to east. There can sometimes be large surf at these beaches good for wave sports such as surfing, bodyboarding, skimboarding and surf kayaking. Restrooms are available in the parking area. A parking fee is charged in season. There are no lifeguards or snack bar. The jetty is a popular spot for fishing.

Directions to Drakes Island Beach from Wells: Hwy 1 north, right onto Drake's Island Road, right on Island Beach Road to end.

While Drakes Island is beautiful, the locals are uppity townies who are arrogant and visitor unfriendly. Take, for example, their beach policy and dogs. It's one thing to pass an ordinance that dogs are not welcome from 8 AM to 6 PM. It's another thing when you're on the beach outside of these hours and the locals tell you to get off of their beach.

For a town that relies so much on tourism, there are other Maine beaches that are much friendlier. smilies/sad.gif
