Yarmouth MA
incorporated
in 1639,
is located in the Mid Cape area. It extends from Cape Cod Bay
on the north side across the peninsula to Nantucket Sound. In Yarmouth
Port, sea captains' homes, galleries, and shops line Route 6A, the Old
King's Highway. North of 6A, marshes amble down to beaches that lie along
Cape Cod Bay. On the south side of Yarmouth runs Route 28 with its motels,
attractions and restaurants catering to tourists who enjoy the beaches
along Nantucket Sound.
Keeping pace with the growth on Cape Cod is the expansion of professional
and community music, art, dance and theater groups, many of them located
in Yarmouth. This community enjoys a variety of recreational programs
along with the town's 15 public saltwater beaches, five freshwater beaches
and two municipal golf courses.
