Coast Guard Beach is part of the Cape Cod
National Seashore. A favorite among Outer Cape tourists, it is recognized
as one of America's top ten beaches, as good as Hawaii or Florida. This
is also one of the most popular surf spots on the Cape, known for its
consistent shortboard/longboard summer swell. It's an ideal swimming area,
as well. A weathered Coast Guard Station watches over the entire shoreline
here.
Walk south towards Nauset Marsh, and you'll observe brackish
marine life, shore/wading birds and seasonal waterfowl. At the end of
the sandspit is Nauset Inlet, which leads to Town Cove in Orleans - a
perfect place to birdwatch, surfcast or look for seals.
Facilities here consist of public restrooms, outdoor
showers and a handicap accessible ramp to the beach. Lifeguards are also
on duty in-season. The small hilltop parking lot is closed during the
summer, necessitating continuous beach shuttle service from the Little
Creek parking area. |
