| Contest Winner $200 "Surfer Girl Sunset" by Ian Wuilleumier ![]() About the photo: "I'm a Junior at Keene State College, where I major in Architecture. I've spent most of my summers on cape cape living with my parents in Brewster. Photography, for me, has always been something to capture a memory. Something that you can look back in 20 years and say hey I was there. As I got older I began to bring out emotion in my photos and after awhile my photos were becoming more artistic than just a mere memory. Personally this picture correlates the two, taking an artistic view, while the memories of a fun and fulfilling summer are present. The girl in the picture is a good friend of the families daughter. She had run in the way of my lens while I was taking pictures of the sunset and by pure accident the picture became a beautiful correlation for the photo contest. Although i don't have a personal website, my work can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/i_wuilleumier/" ======================================

| Boats Category Winner $50 "Girl in Canoe" by Jason Feist (aka "Capecodder ") |
| About the photo: "I grew up on Herring Pond in Eastham. Early this
summer I headed to the Cape to visit my parents who still live there.
The photo was taken late in the afternoon between one of those early
summer rain and thunder storms. There was a little break in the weather
so my girlfriend and I took a canoe out for a paddle. The wind had
completely laid down and the reflection from the trees on the mirror
like water surface had created an amazing backdrop for the photo. I used
one of the new Canon Power Shots with Wide Angle (Great little Point and
Shoot) The lighting was nice with high clouds and the trees were bright
and green. I got my camera ready... asked my Girlfriend to turn around
and 'Click' snapped the photo. She is a California Native and it was her
first time to the Cape. I think she was just enjoying the serenity of
the moment and I feel it shows in the picture. Just after I took the
photo it started to lightly rain. We paddled back to the house quickly,
pulled in the canoe and ran to the safety of the house just in time for
an incredible Lightning show! Phew....Close call with Mother Nature." ================================== Boards Category Winner $50

| About the photo: "The photo was taken early Sunday morning, August
23, 2009, the weekend Hurricane Bill was just offshore. Marconi Beach
was still closed and there was quite a scene at the top of the
stairs. One lone surfer, with a traditional longboard nonetheless,
braved the pounding of the waves and must have drifted a quarter mile
to the right of the stairs. My picture was taken before he decided to
give it another go, despite the wind, fog, and persistent whitewater."

Contest I agree with he above comment. A sunset scene (nice for an ad image) vs a breathtaking photo that should hang in a gallery. |

Photo Contest I agree with the comment above. All photos are very good. But the winner is a more typical sunset scene. The hurricane waves, lone surfer (focal point) and the shades of stormy grey are breathtaking. Seems like a contest between an excellent commerially useful image and a beautiful photograph that should hang in a gallery.. I don't think voting is the answer because that will just measure who gets the most friends to vote for their photo. |

Photo Contest Not to be the Kanye West of Morebeach.com or a biased surfer, but "Morning Lookout" is one of the most thought provoking photos I have seen in a long time... There are so many thoughts going through my head when i look at that picture, i can only imagine the thoughts going through the lone surfer's head... The photograph is the great unknown, what if scenario... You can't stage that... I would love to have a signed print of this photograph by my local printer... Not to take anything away from the winner or the girl in the canoe, but i clearly thought this was the winner, hands down... maybe next contest you could get morebeach.com viewers to vote (also could be a way to increase your "users" & create a larger community... ((my free advice)) any chance you can put me in touch with the photographer to discuss printing/purchase options. |
