Click here for Google Map Prouty Beach on Lake Memphremagog in Newport Vermont offers a quarter mile of sandy beach with a marked swimming area, lifeguard, picnic tables and bathhouse. The lake is 25 miles long and crosses from Vermont into Quebec. 3/4 of the lake is on the Quebec side. The lake has 20 islands. There are claims that the lake contains a sea monster called Memphre. Memphre is said to be reptilian and serpent-like... or whale-like without fins. Sightings have been reported since the 1700's with the most recent claim being reported on May 18 2003.
